The Little England

Nuwara Eliya

About Nuwara Eliya

Many people call Nuwara Eliya as Little England, which is known as a place that has captivated the hearts of both local and foreign tourists. The reason for this is that most of the buildings here were built during the colonial period of Sri Lanka and they resemble the houses of a British village. Also, this area is covered with fog in the morning and evening.
Due to these things, it can be assumed that it is more suitable for a couple who comes to Sri Lanka for a honeymoon to spend a night in Nuwara Eliya.

Being the highest city in Sri Lanka, this area is located at a very high altitude of 1890 meters above sea level, so Nuwara Eliya has a colder climate than the lowlands of Sri Lanka. Its average annual temperature is 16 degrees Celsius. But in some months of December and July, a very low temperature of 5 to 8 degrees Celsius can be experienced in this area.
And the highest mountain of Sri lanka named by “Piduruthalagala” or “Mount Pedro” is also located in the Nuwara eliya (2555meters).

Sri Lanka is the world’s best producer of tea and one of the largest exporters of tea in the world. Nuwara Eliya became the capital of the tea industry after the introduction of tea to Sri Lanka in the mid-19th century. On the road between Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, we can see some of largest Tea factories and Tea plantations in Sri Lanka.
