About Mirissa
In the down south of Sri Lanka, Mirissa is another beautiful coastal area located between Galle and Matara, on the Matara-Colombo main road. This beach also is one of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka which attracts local and foreign tourists throughout the year. Despite being a very small beach, the beauty of Mirissa beach is enormous.
Also, Mirissa is mainly known as the best marine area in Sri Lanka to see the world’s largest creature, the blue whale.
Mirissa is the only place away from land where blue whales can be seen year-round. If you love to watch whales swimming along the blue water, there is no other place than Mirissa. Besides whales, Dolphins, Sharks, Flying fishes and Turtles can also be seen.
Boat services are operated every day at around 7 am to give you the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the whales for 3-5 hours. (The time taken for this is depend on the distance to whales from the land. Because in Some days Whales are in so close to beach, and other days not like that.)
On the boat that sail to see for whales watching, you are provided with tea, coffee, breakfast and bottled water.
Apart from all these, the Weligama beach (Weligama Bay) which is close to Mirissa is also the best place for surfing in Sri Lanka. Can be highly recommended as the best place to do surfing for beginners. A well-trained teams especially for surfing in this area also provide surfing lessons for tourists to do surfing.
This area of Mirissa is very famous among tourists for scuba diving and snorkeling. There is no mistake in calling Mirissa as one of best place in Sri Lanka for that too.
In addition, The Coconut hill which is the left border of the Mirissa coastline is a must see place. And, the Parrot Rock Bridge is also a beautiful island located much close to the Mirissa beach. On days when the sea water level is low, you can cross the sea to reach this island. Because of this beautiful island, this beach has managed to capture the hearts of tourists coming to Mirissa.
Many people come to Mirissa to swim, relax, take beautiful photos, and watch whales because it is a beautiful beach that shines in blue and spreads white.
